The first Coca-Cola glasses that we know of were used during 1900 to 1904; these were straight sided with some of them already bearing the Coco-Cola Script Logo. The Silver Glass Holder with the Coco-Cola Logo was made available to soda fountains in the early 1900’s until about 1904. They were made for the straight sided (many non-logo) glass during that time period to prevent breakage due to the glass being extremely thin and would break when set down. These Coca-Cola Glass Holders not only prevented breakage but considered to be a very elegant item; they appeared in some of the ads of that time period. It’s assumed that the holders were discontinued because the soda fountain operators thought the cost of 5 cents each was too expensive!
The first flared Coca-Cola Glass appeared in 1904 with a syrup line on it for the measurement of syrup with the remainder being carbonation. From 1912 on through today the traditional Coca-Cola glass has been and always will be the flared glass, there are new versions coming out all the time.
